El Cerrito wants, needs, and deserves a new, safe, modern library.
New El Cerrito Library and Library Services Parcel Tax Voter Initiative
This proposed voter initiative ordinance (“ordinance”) states that its purpose is “to fund the planning, construction, and furnishing” of a library in El Cerrito and “to fund the City’s library operating costs of the new library for up to ten years.”

Timeline
| May & June 2025 | Proposed ordinance and petition language submitted. Volunteer kick-off and training. |
| July 4, 2025 | Kick off! We begin gathering petition signatures. We need 2,200 signatures of registered voters who live in El Cerrito. |
| October 31, 2025 | End of signature gathering. |
| November 2025 | Review and submit signatures for verification. (Click link to read the Nov newsletter). |
| January 2026 | The city council accepts verification and places the measure on the ballot. |
| February 2026 | The city council accepts verification and places the measure on the ballot. |
| April & May 2026 | Campaign in support of the ballot measure. |
| June 2026 | Election Day. Vote YES for approval. |
